Recapturing The Narrative - Premiere Issue

What is Melanated Miracles?

Melanated Miracles Magazine is a monthly publication committed to highlighting  contributions made to humanity made by some of the less publicized figures in black history. By pushing forward a false narrative that chattel slavery was an introduction into black history, the world is being de-prived of one of the most fascinating, often untold stories in human history.

The first documented doctors, engineers, architects, scientists, authors, astrologists, and philosophers were all people of color and descendants of melanated civilizations. It is our collective hope, that by bringing some of these figures to light,  we can help create a new narrative within communities of color by providing a reference base of greatness  many are unaware even exist.

About the Editor

Christopher Myers is the Director of Academics for Opportunities Industrialization Center of Oklahoma County, Inc. (OIC), a nonprofit adult education resource center. Beginning his tenure in the classroom as an instructor, Mr. Myers was able to manifest academic success for learners with a wide variety of social challenges including ADHD, autism, and dyslexia. By his 5th year with OIC, Myers played an instrumental role in raising the graduation rate well over 800% and has since assisted well over 1,000 learners across metro Oklahoma City with obtaining their High School Equivalency Diploma.

His unique ability to connect with his target audience, while academically leveling them up, has garnished national attention as he was featured in articles by both StoryCorps and National Public Radio (NPR). Myers has also presented at both national (ProLiteracy) and international (D2L) conferences on topics ranging from community engaged instruction to the face of the adult learner. While pursuing his BA in journalism at Clark Atlanta and Georgia State University, Myers developed an insatiable desire to research the roots of black culture which he attributes to the creation of Melanated Miracles. In addition to this entity, Myers is also the founder of Village Strong Student Advocacy and Educational Services and he serves on the boards of M&R Latino Services as well as The League of Women’s Voters.
